IT DOESN’T WORK!

Posted by:

How many times since I’ve been in India have things not worked for me? I cannot begin to count. My cellphone at Mumbai Airport; my new Nexus (mostly because I don’t understand it…the apps are difficult or foreign to use); my bathroom toilet; electricity; no hot water; not being able to find my umbrella when it’s raining (found 10 minutes ago and hey, it’s sunny outside); my Nexus keyboard (Bluetooth), I’m touch typing this post. These are just some of ...

Praise Mother Earth

Posted by:

There is something magical about the earth. A force that we have been drawn to since birth. That feeling of wanting to play in dirt and get dirty.

Now I get it! I’ve always loved to be in the garden. It became a reflection of my personality, the seeds I chose to grow, the plants I put in the ground, the condition of the soil. I try to make it a weekend routine and ...

Body Curious?

Posted by:

How many of us have said the words, ‘I hate how I feel’ or ‘I hate how I look’. I myself have said the words many times in the past, ‘I hate my body’. Even at my home yoga studio I could’t face looking in the mirror because I felt fat and ugly.

The last couple of days have been really tough. Every muscle and joint have been fighting against the extreme exersize and yesterday I’d had enough…instead of curling up ...

Yoga Sore

Posted by:

It’s so good to be back on my bed again. My body is very sore this evening.

So sore I just couldn’t sit crossed legged for meditation, but lay down for the allocated half an hour. My hips especially are aching – I can feel the inner groin muscles have been stretched to their limit. My ankles are also very sore, but I can feel overnight that they are much stronger. The backs of my knees are tight like a bow, ...

Floods of Love

Posted by:

I’ve been awake listening to the rain. It woke me up at 01h45 and I opened my door to the downpour and a cool breeze on my face. It’s like a disco in the heavens and I’ve sent my intentions to the rooftop. The rain is relentless and the thunder is knocking on earths door with the force of the heavens behind it. The room lights up when I close my eyes.

This rain feels cleansing…like love…tolerable, ever present and giving. ...

Colourful Days

Posted by:

India can be described as a cataclysmic explosion of humanity in its truest form. Totally transparent and free spirited, there are no airs and graces with the locals. Being a holy city, travellers to Rishikesh vary from the obvious tourist to spiritual leaders, Indians from all corners and government officials. I’m quite sure there”s much going on around here that I don’t know about but from inside my room all I hear are hooters and I’m pleased I didn’t brave ...

Salute the Sun

Posted by:

Plant a ‘seed’ and the sun will make it grow…

In unhappier times I went to see a drama therapist who gave me some homework after one of our sessions. She asked me to interpret my understanding of happiness in a collage of random pictures. There were a few peripheral images of material comforts but what really sticks to mind is the image I used in the centre. It was by far bigger than the rest and a direct interpretation of ...

Routine and Simplicity

Posted by:

It’s unbearably hot this evening, I can’t wait to turn off the light.

I feel like I’ve been in India for so long already. I can only put it down to the 04h30 wake up routine, An additional 3 hours in a morning can have that effect and with the pace of a peaceful day can put you into a blissful eternity.

Love Your Self

Posted by:

This mornings yoga class was met with a totally new set of challenges I did not expect to face so soon. As the monsoon rains thrashed down on the roof of the studio I imagined being washed clean…however painful a posture is while you’re doing it it’s also a release of calming energy to every muscle and joint when you release that posture.

We’re using aids like blocks, cushions and belts to push our bodies to the limit and most of ...

The Gift

Posted by:

I know for sure after just four days that my life will never be the same again.

I have to remind myself that it’s only day four because my mind already sees differently.

My body clock is regulated and it seems that without stress I can function well with 5 or 6 hours of sleep. At home I would need 8 or more and still struggle to get out of bed in the morning. The term ...
