A Herculean Task – Karma Yoga Rishikesh
Posted by:
I recently visited the Divine Life Society Bookshop and picked up the book Practice of Karma Yoga written by the late great Swami Sivananda. As a yogi we are taught to let go of ego and to always be a student open to learning. This insert* may define Karma Yoga, however as a foot specialist the intent to change as many lives as possible is limited to a small number of people whose ailments should be treated according to their severity ...

Goa – Dreamt and Discovered
Posted by:
I’m really going to miss my first ‘Goan home’. A canopy of palms line the front porch, our sanctuary from the heat, with its cooling glassy tiled floor. Wrought iron and gold balustrades accessorize the yellow toned structural features of our villa. A short 50 metre stroll to the thriving main street which hugs the erratic coastline and we were in ‘the vibe’.
Unpredictably it was the brand new LG Direct Drive washing machine which seemed to outweigh having no connectivity ...

On 6 April 2015 husband and wife team Anton and Pamela announced themselves at Mother Theresa Missionaries of Charity located in Carambolim, Goa to spend a day with the residents doing selfless service, Karma Yoga. A sign describes the mission as a home for the aged, the destitute and the dying. There are fifty one residents of which the majority are mentally handicapped or unstable, under the full-time care of five nuns.
“We arrived just after 09h00 and over the five hours that followed, ...

A disappearing trick – 11 days to go
Posted by:
As I sit contemplating how it got to be 11 days left to go I find myself pondering on the words, home is where the heart is. In this case my home is not where my heart is because it feels like it’s spreading out over many different places. My things, my four cats (all finally and thankfully homed), even my daughter’s trip back from Goa alone will see my heart spreading wider and further. Feeling lost is an understatement ...

The Force Behind Us – 31 days to go
Posted by:
Whichever power and force is behind the remarkable events Anton and I have experienced individually and together since last year November we feel completely safe in our decision and have weighed the process against all the other opportunities here in South Africa.
I see many thoughts and ideas over time that have shaped us and created a society where our children should feel free enough to dream of limitless opportunities, to be ...

It was late 2011, during the first year of living with my husband (at that time boyfriend), that I had the opportunity to travel to Ibiza, Spain. I had not started yoga nor had I any inkling to travel to India, both were completely unknown to me. During our brief stay I decided on a second tattoo on my left shoulder, neck area…’a peacock feather inscribed with the words freedom, tolerance, respect’. Sometimes impromptu decisions especially about tattoos can leave ...

Size does count – 93 days to go…
Posted by:
Size does count…just like ones ego it is the bigger things, like a Land Rover for instance, that really impact the process of letting go. Now that there is one less vehicle in the driveway thinning out cupboards and drawers seems easier. It’s an ongoing Christmas cracker of emotions that are observed lifting off the shoulders as I realize the positive effects of unburdening.
Ego has been throwing his toys around like ...

Exodus to India – 101 days to departure
Posted by:
After many cosmic connections and signs or messages from the universe over the past two months it is without a doubt that Anton and I have a calling to leave again, on 25 March 2015, for India…
and anyone is welcome! Daniel 9:10-11
Yesterday, after a morning at the Milnerton Flea Market selling odds and ends, we found ourselves sitting around our home bar in the early evening talking generally about the ...
