Finding balance…on and off the mat

Posted by:

Any negative emotions are bound to set us off balance…emotionally AND physically. I see this from time to time when student yogis attend a class with every intent to participate fully, but their practice, especially balancing poses become compromised and constricted. How can one let go of anger, stress, frustration and any other negative emotion before or at the beginning of a class so as better to participate and get better fulfillment out of a class. Most teachers begin a ...

Sleep perchance to dream…

Posted by:

In the last couple of months I’ve had very little or erratic sleep and we know that this can unbalance the body’s systems and make us feel very unsettled or lethargic…of course planning my own wedding has had a lot to do with the energy levels in general but, I guess no matter what there will always be something on the horizon to get us nervous, excited and/or anxious.

Not only have I continued to focus my energy, offering a unique ...

My Yoga Journey – Lynn Theunissen

Posted by:

At the beginning of September 2013, Lynn Theunissen a principal’s secretary at a well-known Cape Town girl’s high school began her yoga journey at Vital Touch Yoga. Like many of us Lynn had been searching for something to help her cope with stress. Here’s what Lynn has to say about her journey thus far.

“I was looking for a form of exercise to help me cope with stress but also wanted it to be recreational. With extra ...

That which does not serve you…let it go…

Posted by:

What is this conscious awareness that yogi’s teach. Since my return from India I’ve walked, talked, slept and eaten yoga. There are days when I’ve had to reassess my commitment to my own practice because teaching and practicing amounted to over 9 hours of yoga a week and my body started to take strain. As much as it can be good for you too much of a good thing doesn’t work. The heated room scenario at my studio of choice ...

Home…bitter sweet home

I feel as though my whole world has been stretched…from India to South Africa my heart feels lost. I could never have known how much pain I would go through from loosing a Grandmother. The beautiful silent moments I experienced in India may be the only thing helping me through this very difficult time. I hold on ...

The good, the bad and the unbearable

Posted by:

Before writing this article my heart had hardened and I thought I had no advice for people wanting to travel to India. On a budget option it’s difficult to know what you’re getting and even the best made travel plans are sure to go arry in this crazy country. My travels through the ‘Golden Triangle’ will forever be remembered for their utter chaosness. From the time the driver says “You are here”, and you’re left to your own devices to ...

Karma Yoga…my last days

Posted by:

Pictures are worth a thousand words…

There are not enough words to express the feelings of gratitude I have for being fortunate enough to help the people of Rishikesh. Today the babas received soap and facecloths – part of donations received in kindness, and to those who contributed I am very grateful. The final days are here as I plan my departure on Monday 21 July to travel for one week in India before going back home. I will continue to ...
