At the beginning of September 2013, Lynn Theunissen a principal’s secretary at a well-known Cape Town girl’s high school began her yoga journey at Vital Touch Yoga. Like many of us Lynn had been searching for something to help her cope with stress. Here’s what Lynn has to say about her journey thus far.
“I was looking for a form of exercise to help me cope with stress but also wanted it to be recreational. With extra kilos to shed I decided to change my diet at the same time and began to eat healthily, cutting out sugar, meat and dairy. I began to take note of ingredients in packaged foods and started drinking a minimum of 1 litre of water a day. For me drinking water doesn’t come naturally, but with the assistance of yoga decisions regarding my body became conscious choices.
I had not done Yoga before and besides for it being relaxing didn’t know much more about it. I soon realized it to be so much more than that. Over the last 5 months I have not only lost 7 kilos and lots of centimetres (some of my clothes are literally falling off me), but my confidence has returned. It takes hard work and commitment but I’m rewarded with a feeling of wellbeing and a realisation that there needs to be time set aside for myself. I now adhere to a routine including yoga and ‘me’ time 3 or 4 times a week. I can concentrate on myself and put things into perspective with the understanding that work, business and stress which is part of my life, is not the whole of it.
I look forward to each lesson and interacting with other ladies in the class. I leave feeling tired and sweaty, but satisfied, and with such a sense of accomplishment. The meditation is a new and enjoyable experience for me. I couldn’t imagine my week without my yoga class!”Share
